Even though I’m from the area, I know that I have a lot to learn about the region. Where do you think I should visit and what should I review? My focus is on local products and entrepreneurs. If you know someone or are someone producing or contributing something to the community that you’d like people to know about, post it here (or email me).
Just a reminder about my policies: do not deride or denigrate other folks’ suggestions. I’m the judge here.

Hey, notice you have no review of Mallard’s Bistro. Is it no longer open? I’m originally from Grays Harbor and used to work for Niels Tiedt. It was a two man kitchen, just us side by side putting out food I’d stack up against any food anywhere. Worked for him for almost four years. He’s got his issues but the man is the real deal. He’s a grumpy old Euro-chef (originally from Denmark) If he’s still in business you need to give the man a proper shout out. In the 60s Craig Claiborne named him one of America’s top 10 young chefs. He’s a local treasure.

He is, indeed, a local treasure. After this none-to-brief hiatus, Mallards will be one of the first new reviews to appear here.
Thank you for posting.

Just came home from a Memorial for Niels Tiedt, who died on June 23, 2012. Mallard’s – so sad to say – is no more. We were regular customers there for 16 years, and never found a better restaurant either inside or outside of Grays Harbor. He was, indeed – a local treasure.

I just want you to know we were in today after a day of clam digging and the customer service from both male and female that were working was awful. They both looking unclean especially the red headed man. He was rude and not happy about being at work. We bought the crab cheese sandwich, two cod and chips, a basket of clam strips and fries for $41. The crab sandwich was brought to me with about 10 sweet potatoes fries which I never said I wanted sweet potatoes and the other meals were less than satisfying both having hardly any fries. The boats that they were in were not even half full of food.
So with that said we will not be coming back because the employees were unclean, rude, and the food was way over priced for what we got. I’m guessing if the employee cared about his job and service we would have received an adequate amount of food.
Sorry for the complaint but it’s the truth.
